Dunno if I’d care / dare to cycle around Paris myself to be honest! Been there all of twice you know, for about oh several whole hours in total. 1984 it was, with you and Ailsa en route to the Auvergne. Great trip – one of the very best!
What I remember was the French driving like amphetinated Italians and parking with the delicacy of battletanks.
(Back bumper finally fallen off? Just bung it in the boot! French panel beaters must be on a very nutritious gravy train.)
Yeah anyway, I’d rather have a bit of armour myself.
To be fair as with most things if you survived you’d get the hang of it. Amsterdam biking took a little getting used to right enough, but now it all makes almost (im)perfect sense – in a strange back to front, sideways and across, (behind, between, and BE FIRST!) sort of manner.
While you’d no doubt prefer whoosing around Paris on something suitably racy John, I do love cycling my city clunker here.
“Outta my way, I’m on a BATAVUS!!!”
Just me getting hill fit in Holland… 😉
;o) Nah it’d be a city bike for me.
Currently I lust after something from velo-orange
Velo Orange? Thats cruel John – you know I can hardly resist anything of an orange tendancy…
Most interesting, though I kind of have a touring type cycle stashed away somewhere. Nope, think I’ll just keep saving for something else with strings on it. But yeah, something a little more comfy than a pure racing bike can still be very enjoyable.
Am I going to hurt next week then, or what? Hills here I come!
I’m with Andy on this one – you’d need to be brave / stupid / French (delete as applicable) to cycling around Paris.
I’m not a lover of cities – as I’m sure you know – but as cities go, Paris is great. I’m convinced there is a version of me in an alternative universe living there right now – un jour, puet-etre!
